How the Third Eye® Device Works
The Third Eye® Retroscope® device is passed through the working channel of the standard colonoscope until it extends beyond its distal tip. As it emerges, the device automatically turns 180º back toward the tip of the colonoscope, after which it is locked into place.
Then, as the colonoscope and the Third Eye Retroscope device are withdrawn together from the colon, the physician is able to simultaneously observe two video images, the forward image of the colonoscope and retrograde image of the Third Eye device for a comprehensive view of the colon.
When a lesion has been detected in the retrograde view, the Third Eye Retroscope device can be quickly and easily retracted from the working channel to allow insertion of a polypectomy snare or biopsy forceps. When the polypectomy is complete, the Third Eye device is easily reinserted to continue with the procedure.
How does the Third Eye device emerge from the colonoscope?

Physician point-of-view with the Third Eye Retroscope device during a colonoscopy procedure

The Third Eye Retroscope device provides a clear view behind haustral folds.

At hepatic flexure, the retrograde view reveals the lumens of both the transverse and ascending colon.
